Orang Asli Village@Kuala Kubu Baru

Last week Sunday, 9th May 2010....my wife and I visited a orang asli village in Kuala Kubu Baru in Hulu Selangor. The trip was organised by Chempaka Buddhist Lodge, it turned out to be an eye opener for both of us. Our trip via bus from Petaling Jaya started at 8.00am, stopped at Kuala Kubu Kubu township for breakfast before heading further into the jungle track to their village. The village is situated between a valley and next to Sungai Selangor water dam which supplies water to most places in Kuala Lumpur city.

Reached the village at 10.30am still misty and it started to rain minutes later. The village houses are better now with some help from Government funds, but they still sustain their daily life from the jungle.

This trip organiser soon looked for the village chief, and everyone from the bus started to unload foodstuff such as rice, milk, cereals, etc. for distribution. People from the village, young and old came out to help too.

We were quick enough to unload all the foodstuff before the rain got heavier.

There you go...I don't know for how long this supply will last before the villagers will need to be back into the forest to hunt for food and also grow their own crops.

Village chief was happy, it's not everyday that they receive foods supplies from outsiders. His facial expression says it all.

See I got my cereal

Innocent faces...some were camera shy.

Too bad the rain did not stop soon otherwise we could have taken a tour around the village and taking more photos of their daily life. We left soon but I will sure be back for my 2nd visit. Such a peaceful village, where people survive on basic necessity, depending on the forest for food and water. Reminds me that I am very lucky to have what I have now. Let's preserve our beautiful forest...there are lives here too.
